Traveling with magnesium gummies – will they melt? TSA?

Headed on a 10-hour flight + road trip. I take magnesium gummies for sleep & cramps. Anyone traveled with them? Do they melt in checked bags or carry-on? TSA ever give you trouble? Also any tips for keeping them from turning into a sticky mess in hot weather? Thanks!

I’ve flown with gummy vitamins a bunch (the kids take them). TSA doesn’t care, just put them in your carry-on. They’re not a liquid so no 3-1-1 rule. But melting is real! On a trip to FL last summer, my bag sat in the car for an hour and they turned into a glob. Now I pack them in a small insulated lunch bag with an ice pack if I’m going somewhere hot. Also, don’t leave them in the car, obvi.

Adding: For hiking, I’d recommend putting a few days’ worth in a small pill container or ziplock, keep it in a cooler part of your pack. Some brands hold up better – look for ones that are “heat stable” or use pectin instead of gelatin. I’ve had good luck with [brand name] not melting as fast.

Good tips, thanks! I was worried about them counting as a gel or something. Glad TSA doesn’t hassle. I’ll grab an insulated pouch. Should I refrigerate them before I leave? Does that help?

Yes! Chilling them before you go can help keep them firm longer. But once they get warm, they might stay sticky after. So if you can, keep them cool with an ice pack in your bag or at the hotel fridge. Enjoy your trip!
