Melatonin gummies are just candy for adults, change my mind
So I work night shifts at a warehouse and been using melatonin gummies to help me sleep during the day. But lately I've been reading the labels and holy crap, some of these things have like 5g of sugar per gummy and you're supposed to take 2-3. That's basically a handful of Skittles before bed. I switched to tablets but they're bitter as hell. Anyone else feel like we're just eating candy with a side of hormones? I get the convenience but come on, is this really what supplements have become?
OMG yes. I'm a gym rat and I'm super careful about what I put in my body. I tried melatonin gummies once and they were so sweet they made my teeth hurt. Plus, the artificial colors? No thanks. I switched to a tincture and never looked back. It's a few drops under the tongue, no sugar, no junk. Yeah it's a little more hassle but I'd rather that than eat a dessert before bed. Convenience shouldn't mean sacrificing quality.
Well, actually, the sugar content is often exaggerated. Most melatonin gummies have around 1-2g of sugar per gummy. Yeah, if you take 3 that's 3-6g. A teaspoon of sugar is 4g. So it's not like you're eating a candy bar. That said, I do think the candy-fication is real – they add colors and flavors to make them appealing, especially to kids. But for adults, the convenience factor is huge. Not everyone can choke down a pill. I think it's a trade-off. As long as you're aware, it's fine.
RhinoRich184, I get your point but 6g of sugar before bed is still 6g I don't need. And it's not just sugar, it's the corn syrup and dextrose and all that. I'm not saying ban them, but I wish there were more sugar-free options that actually taste okay. The tincture sounds interesting, EcoEllen630, but I've heard they can be hit or miss. Maybe I'll give it a shot.
PurePete, definitely give it a try. I use one from a brand that's just melatonin and glycerin, no alcohol. Tastes a bit weird at first but you get used to it. And you can adjust the dose easier. Plus, no plastic waste from the gummy containers. Win-win. Let me know if you want the brand, I don't wanna shill but I can DM you.
