Melatonin gummy disaster - my toddler thought they were candy!
Okay, I need to vent/share this hilarious/scary moment. My 4-year-old found my melatonin gummies and ate THREE before I caught him. He said 'yummy candy!' and now I'm panicking about him being extra sleepy at preschool tomorrow. Anyone else have kids (or spouses!) who can't tell the difference? I keep them in childproof bottles but he's like a little ninja.
Oh wow, that's concerning! First, I hope your little one is okay - maybe call poison control just to be safe? But also, this is why I'm so careful with supplements. Have you considered switching to a vegan melatonin option? Some brands use gelatin from animals. Might be a good time to reassess what you're bringing into your home. My partner once mistook my B12 gummies for regular candy too - not fun!
LOL been there! Not with kids but with my travel buddy. We were in Bali and he ate half a bottle of my sleep gummies thinking they were snacks. Slept through our sunrise hike next day 😂 Pro tip: I now put them in a separate ziplock with 'MEDS' written in sharpie. Works for airport security too! Maybe try a lockbox? They're cheap on Amazon.
Ugh, this is why I hate single-use plastic bottles! They're not actually childproof - just landfill fodder. Have you tried the dissolvable melatonin strips? Less plastic waste and no choking hazard. My niece refuses gummies because of the 'weird texture' but will take the strips. Also, maybe try a high-up cabinet? Hope your toddler is okay 💚
Update: Called the pediatrician and he's fine - just extra cuddly tonight. Thanks for the concern everyone! Greg, I'll look into vegan options (didn't even think about gelatin). Sam, love the lockbox idea - ordering one now. Willow, strips are a great alternative for texture issues! My husband won't take gummies either because they 'stick to his teeth' 🙄 Appreciate the support!
