My Melatonin Gummies Changed Color and Got Hard – Still Safe?
Hey everyone, I've been taking these melatonin gummies for a few weeks. Last night I noticed they've turned a darker shade and some are hard as rocks. A few are even sticking together. The bottle says they expire in 6 months. Are they still safe to eat? I don't wanna waste them but also don't wanna get sick.
Might be temperature changes causing sugar crystallization. I've had keto gummies do that. Probably still safe, but the potency might be lower. If they taste off, toss 'em. Better safe than sorry. Also, check if they have sugar – some melatonin gummies have hidden carbs!
From a foodie perspective: sugar bloom happens when moisture gets in. They're likely safe but texture will be nasty. I'd say pop one and see if it tastes okay. If it's rock hard, just crunch it or dissolve in hot tea. But if they smell weird, definitely toss.
As a runner, I've had gummies do that after being in a hot car. I ate them anyway and was fine, but I did notice they didn't work as well. Probably the melatonin degraded. I'd recommend getting a new bottle – it's cheap and you don't want to risk a bad night's sleep before a big race!
Thanks guys! I'll try one and see. They don't smell bad, just look weird. Maybe I'll store them in the fridge next time. Appreciate the advice!
