My toddler thinks melatonin gummies are candy - help!
So my 4-year-old found my melatonin gummies yesterday and thought they were 'special candy' because they're shaped like little bears. I caught him with the bottle open and he'd already eaten two! Had to call poison control just to be safe (they said he'd be fine but might get extra sleepy). Now he keeps asking for 'sleepy candy' at bedtime. Anyone else have kids who confuse these with treats? I'm thinking of switching to pills just to avoid this.
Oh no! Glad your little one is okay. My husband did something similar actually - he thought my melatonin gummies were regular vitamin C ones and took a double dose before a work meeting. Said he spent the whole afternoon fighting yawns in the conference room 😅 Maybe try keeping them in a locked cabinet? I've started storing all supplements way up high after that incident.
As a night shift worker, I LIVE for these gummies, but my 7-year-old refuses to even try them because she says the texture is 'slimy.' She calls them 'sad gummies' lol. Meanwhile my husband will sneak them if I leave them out because he thinks they taste better than his vitamins. Maybe try the chewable tablet kind? They're less candy-like in appearance.
This is exactly why I'm skeptical about these trendy supplements in gummy form. They're literally designed to look and taste like candy, then we're surprised when kids get confused? The whole industry feels irresponsible to me. If you need melatonin, get the plain tablets and keep them in child-proof containers. Problem solved.
Thanks everyone! @LunarLily the locked cabinet is a good idea - ordering one now. @DewyDaphne 'sad gummies' is too funny 😂 My kid would probably agree about the texture. @VitalVince388 I hear you, but after running marathons I need something to help me wind down that doesn't taste awful. Maybe I'll look for those quick-dissolve strips instead.
