Hey y'all, I just started taking these new melatonin gummies (5mg) to help with my jet lag. But I usually drink a strong coffee in the morning. Is it safe to combine them? I know melatonin makes you sleepy but coffee is a stimulant... Any advice?

Dude, mixing uppers and downers is a bad idea. Melatonin is for sleep, coffee is for wakefulness. They'll just cancel each other out or stress your system. Take melatonin at night, coffee in the AM. Not rocket science.

I get where you're coming from, but your body's natural rhythms are important. Melatonin at night mimics darkness, coffee in the morning supports cortisol. If you take them together, you're confusing your body. I'd suggest a calming tea instead of coffee if you need something in the morning. Also, maybe look into a lower dose of melatonin, like 1mg? More isn't always better.

As an amateur chef and biohacker, I've experimented with this. Actually, there's some research that caffeine can inhibit melatonin metabolism, so you might not get the full effect. But if you have to drink coffee, wait at least an hour after the melatonin. And maybe skip the coffee altogether on days you take it. Try a turmeric latte instead – anti-inflammatory and won't mess with sleep.

I'm a granola parent and I wouldn't mix them. My kids take melatonin gummies sometimes, but we never give them caffeine. It's about respecting the purpose. If you're jet-lagged, maybe try some chamomile and magnesium before bed instead of melatonin. That combo works wonders for me. Just my two cents!
