Hey all, so I bought a bottle of multivitamin gummies last week and they were fine, but now they've gotten kind of hard and there's like a white powder on the outside. They also stick together. Is that normal? Are they still safe to eat? I'm a med student and I know some things about meds, but these are supplements so I'm not 100% sure. Any thoughts?

omg I've had that happen with gummies before! It's probably just sugar blooming or something, like when gummies get exposed to moisture. I think they're still safe, but they might not taste as good. I just toss them if they get too hard, but maybe that's wasteful.

Yeah, it's called sugar bloom. It's not mold or anything, just the sugar crystallizing. Should be fine to eat. I've eaten gummies like that plenty of times during my fasting windows, and they're fine. But I'm not a doc, just an IF enthusiast. Watch for any funky smell or if they get moldy, then definitely no.

I'm all for natural and holistic, but I'd be careful. Even if it's just sugar, the texture change might mean the vitamins degraded. Better safe than sorry, I'd get a new bottle. Also, make sure you store them properly - airtight container in a cool place. I keep mine in the fridge actually.
