Gummies turned into rocks! Are they still safe?

So I bought a jar of my favorite multivitamin gummies about 6 months ago, and I forgot about them in my pantry. I just opened them and they are super hard, some are stuck together, and there's like a white powder on them (sugar bloom?). I know there's an expiration date, but it's still a month away. Are they still safe to eat? I don't want to waste them but also don't want to get sick.

Hardening is just loss of moisture, and the white stuff is sugar crystallization - totally natural. But the real question is: have they been exposed to heat? If they got hot, the vitamins could degrade, making them less effective. I'd say if they don't smell off or look moldy, they're safe, but you might not get the full nutrient profile. I'm a biohacker, so I'd toss them and get fresh ones - why take subpar supplements?

I've had this happen with my kids' gummies. I read that it's fine, just texture changes. I've eaten them like that and never had issues. But I usually do a 'shelf-life' check: if they are rock hard, I might soak them in a bit of water to soften? Lol. But honestly, for optimal health, I'd rather eat them sooner than later. I try to follow Huberman's advice on supplement quality - so I'd probably get new ones if they're old.

From a food science perspective: the sugar bloom is just sugar recrystallization, harmless. Texture change is due to moisture loss. Safety wise, there's very little risk of bacterial growth because of the low water activity. However, vitamins degrade over time, especially if exposed to heat/light. So they might be less potent, but not dangerous. Check for any off-odors or mold - that's your red flag. If they pass, they're safe. But I'd store them properly next time - cool, dry place.

Thanks guys! Sounds like they're safe but might be less effective. I'll try to eat them quickly - maybe with a glass of water to help soften them up? Or should I just toss? I hate wasting food, but I also want the benefits. I'll probably eat them if no mold. Appreciate the advice!
