Is it worth it to set up a gummy vitamin plant? 🍬💊
Saw this article about the cost of setting up a multivitamin gummy plant. Seems like a huge investment! Anyone here work in the industry? I'm just an amateur chef, but I make my own gummy treats at home – never considered making vitamins though. The margins must be tight?
I work in operations for a mid-size supplement company. Setting up a plant is no joke – the article's cost model looks accurate. You're looking at millions for equipment, plus GMP compliance. But if you can scale, the profit is there. I'd recommend starting with a contract manufacturer first to test the market. That's what we did.
As a student, I just buy the cheapest gummies lol. But it's interesting to see the behind-the-scenes costs. I wonder how much of that gets passed to consumers? Also, does anyone else get gummies that stick together? That's my pet peeve.
YogurtYuri394 – the sticking is usually from humidity or improper coating. Homemade I use a bit of cornstarch. For production, they have anti-caking agents. But yeah, it's annoying. Greg, thanks for the tip on contract manufacturing. Might look into that for my gummy business!
