My toddler thinks my gummy vitamins are candy - help!
Okay, I need to vent. My 4-year-old found my multivitamin gummies in my purse yesterday and ate like 5 of them before I caught him. He thought they were 'mommy's special candy' and now he keeps asking for more. I'm freaking out a little - are these things safe if kids get into them? I called poison control and they said he should be fine since it's just vitamins, but still... anyone else have this happen?
Oh honey, I feel you! My 6-year-old REFUSES to eat his own kids' gummies because he says they're 'too chewy' but he'll steal my adult ones every chance he gets. I've had to start keeping them in a childproof container on the highest shelf. Have you considered switching to a liquid vitamin? Less appealing to little hands, and you can mix it into smoothies.
LOL my husband did this last week! I keep my gummies on my desk and he grabbed a handful thinking they were my new 'energy gummies' (which I do keep in a similar bottle). He was like 'why do these taste so... vitamin-y?' 😂 Anyway, maybe try putting them in a clearly labeled medicine bottle? Or get one of those weekly pill organizers so you only have a day's worth out at a time.
As a trainer, I've seen this SO many times! The candy-like appearance is a double-edged sword. Pro tip: store them with your other supplements/meds, not with food. Also, check the dosage - some adult multis have iron that can be dangerous in large amounts for kids. Might be worth talking to your pediatrician about appropriate kids' vitamins if your little one is interested in taking them 'like mommy does'.
Thanks everyone! @OrganicOlivia the liquid vitamin is a good idea, but my kid has texture issues (hence why he likes the gummies...). @FitnessFanatic the pill organizer is genius - ordering one now. @WellnessWendy good point about the iron, I checked and mine are iron-free thankfully. Lesson learned: keep these things LOCKED UP!
