Is the sugar coating worth it? Let's talk NAC gummies
Ok I have to vent. I've been looking into NAC supplements for my allergies and oxidative stress, but every gummy brand I find is basically candy! 3-4g of sugar per gummy?? That's insane. I feel like we're trading one health issue for another. Why can't they make NAC in a pill or powder that doesn't taste like a dessert? Am I the only one annoyed by this 'candy-fication' trend?
I get your frustration, @MindfulMila778. I'm doing intermittent fasting and strict about my sugar intake. I had to give up gummy vitamins a while back for that exact reason. Now I stick to powder or capsules. But for some people, especially kids or those who hate swallowing pills, the gummies are the only way they'll actually take their supplements. It's a trade-off between purity and compliance.
I'm a gadget lover so I have to chime in. I use this app that tracks all my macros, including sugar from supplements. When I started taking NAC gummies, my sugar went crazy! So I switched to this sublingual tablet that dissolves under the tongue - no sugar, but it tastes like... well, sulfur. Not great, but I'll take it if it means avoiding the candy trap. Have either of you tried the sublingual forms?
@CrystalCathy58 I haven't tried sublingual, but I've been using NAC powder mixed in my morning smoothie. It's a little bitter but I can mask it with berries. I just wish brands would offer more unsweetened options without artificial sweeteners either. @SolarSam308 makes a good point about compliance though. Maybe I'm being too harsh? But honestly, it's like the whole supplement aisle is turning into a candy store.
@MindfulMila778 That's a valid take. I think it's all about choice. If the gummies help people stick to their regimen, that's great. But for those of us who are careful about sugar, there should be more options. I've starting buying bulk powder and making my own gummies with sugar-free sweeteners like stevia or monk fruit. It's a bit of effort, but at least I know what's in them. Maybe that's a compromise?
