My kid thought my NAC gummies were candy...

Okay, so I keep my gummy vitamins in a bowl on the counter (I know, I know, bad idea for the kids, but it's the only way I remember to take them). Today, my 5-year-old grabbed a handful of my NAC gummies and popped them like candy! I freaked out, but then I checked the bottle – they're 600mg each. Is that dangerous for a kid? He ate like 4 of them! I called poison control and they said he'd probably get a tummy ache, but now I'm paranoid. Anyone else had this happen?

Oh no! That's terrifying. I'm a busy professional, and I've had my fair share of near-misses. I once found my husband eating my melatonin gummies like they were sour patch kids. Now I keep them in a high cabinet with a childproof lock. But to answer your question, I do know that NAC can be hard on the liver in high doses, especially for little ones. I'd definitely monitor for any signs of nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. And maybe give him lots of water. But sounds like you did the right thing calling poison control. Fingers crossed he's okay!

Sending good vibes your way! I'm a yoga instructor and I always preach about the power of awareness. This is a great reminder to store supplements like medicine. As for NAC, it's generally safe for adults, but for kids, the dosage is key. I've read that high doses can cause oxidative stress. But don't worry too much – a one-time mistake is probably not going to cause long-term issues. Keep an eye on him and maybe distract him with some fun activities. Deep breaths!

Ha, my kids did the same with my elderberry gummies. They thought they were candy. But NAC? That's a whole different beast. I'm a meditation rookie, but even I know that stuff is powerful. Glad you called poison control. For the future, maybe try putting them in a different container or storing them with your supplements, not where the kids can see. And maybe use a pill organizer? That way you know exactly how many you've taken and they're out of sight. Hope your little one is just fine, though!
