My NAC gummies changed color and got hard - are they still safe to eat?

Hey everyone, I've been taking NAC gummies for about 2 months now and just noticed something weird. I opened my new bottle yesterday and the gummies look different - they're darker than usual (more brownish instead of light yellow) and some are kinda hard and stuck together. A few have that white powdery stuff on them too. Are these still safe to take? I don't want to waste them but also don't want to eat something that's gone bad. Has anyone else had this happen?

OP, that sounds like classic sugar bloom or moisture issues! I actually use a little hygrometer in my supplement cabinet (got it for my electronics collection lol) to monitor humidity. NAC is sensitive to moisture - the white powder is probably sugar crystals forming on the surface when they dry out. The color change might be oxidation. I'd check the expiration date and maybe contact the manufacturer with batch info. Personally, I'd skip this batch - better safe than sorry with supplements!

ugh I HATE when gummies get hard and stick together! Ruins the whole experience. I had this happen with some vitamin C gummies last year - they turned into one giant brick basically. Texture was awful, like chewing rubber. I still ate them though (waste not want not!) and was fine, but they tasted weird. If your NAC gummies taste off or have a weird smell, I'd toss them. But if they still taste normal, probably just a texture issue from storage. Maybe keep them in the fridge next time?

This is why I prefer traditional capsules over these trendy gummies. Less variables, more stability. That said, my granddaughter's gummies did something similar when we left them in the car on a hot day. The heat and moisture changes can definitely affect them. If they're significantly harder or the color is dramatically different, I wouldn't risk it. Supplements should be stored properly in cool, dry places. Perhaps this is a sign to consider a more reliable form of NAC?

As a runner who relies on NAC for recovery, I've seen this before! Usually happens when the seal isn't perfect or they've been exposed to temperature swings. The sticking together and hardening is annoying but typically not dangerous if they're within date. The color change is more concerning though - NAC can degrade with light/air exposure. I'd check if they still have that slight sulfur smell (normal for NAC). If they smell rancid or very different, bin them. Otherwise, they're probably still effective but might taste worse. I'd finish this bottle but store the next one better!
