THREAD: NAC Gummy Flavors - Love the Berry, Hate the Citrus... What Should I Try Next?Started by OP

Hey everyone, need some advice on NAC gummies! I've been taking them for a few months now and I'm totally hooked on the mixed berry flavor - it's sweet without being too artificial tasting. But I made the mistake of buying a citrus blend last time and wow... it's like chewing on bitter orange peel with a weird aftertaste. Almost made me stop taking them altogether! What's the consensus on the 'best' flavor out there? I'm due for a refill soon and don't want to waste money on another dud.

OP, I feel you! As someone who treats supplements like a gourmet experience, flavor is EVERYTHING. The mixed berry is definitely top-tier - it's got that balanced sweetness with just a hint of tartness. If you liked that, you should try the pomegranate-acai blend. It's got more depth than the basic berry, with earthy notes that complement the NAC instead of fighting it. Stay away from anything 'tropical' though - the pineapple-mango ones I tried had this weird chemical aftertaste that lingered for hours. Pro tip: some brands do sample packs with multiple flavors!

Honestly, this is why I started making my own! Store-bought gummies always have either too much sugar or weird artificial flavors masking the NAC. I've perfected a recipe using elderberry syrup and a touch of local honey - the natural sweetness covers the slight sulfur note of NAC beautifully. If you're not into DIY, look for brands that use real fruit extracts instead of 'natural flavors.' The ones with actual blueberry or raspberry juice tend to taste more authentic. Also check the sweetener - maltitol can cause digestive issues AND tastes off to some people.

From a healthcare perspective, I'd remind everyone that flavor shouldn't be the primary concern - consistency in taking your NAC matters most for the antioxidant benefits. That said, I've recommended the cherry-flavored ones to many patients because they're consistently palatable. The citrus blends often have added vitamin C which can intensify the tartness. BerryBen's right about pomegranate being a good alternative. OP, if you're sensitive to tastes, you might want to look for enteric-coated capsules instead - no flavor issues at all. But if you're set on gummies, Nature's Way does a decent grape flavor that's mild.

Thanks everyone! BerryBen - gonna look for that pomegranate-acai blend you mentioned. PlantPat - respect the DIY hustle but I'm way too lazy for that lol. Nina - good point about consistency, that's why I stick with gummies (easier to remember). Sounds like I should avoid anything labeled 'citrus' or 'tropical' and maybe try cherry or grape as backups. Appreciate the help - this community always comes through!
