THREAD: NAC for brain fog - anyone else seeing results?Started by HubermanHopeful35

Hey everyone, been experimenting with NAC (N-acetylcysteine) for about 3 weeks now after listening to Dr. Huberman's podcast on cognitive enhancers. I take 600mg twice daily on an empty stomach. The mental clarity is noticeable - less brain fog during my afternoon slump. Anyone else stacking it with other nootropics? I'm combining it with alpha-GPC and find the synergy pretty solid for focus sessions.

Interesting! I've been reading the studies on NAC's role in glutathione production and oxidative stress reduction. The mechanism makes sense theoretically, but I'm always skeptical of anecdotal reports. HubermanHopeful35, have you tracked any biomarkers or done blood work to see if it's actually affecting your glutathione levels? I'd be more convinced with some hard data.

I started NAC about a month ago for allergy season support since it's supposed to help with mucus. Honestly, I haven't noticed much difference with my allergies, BUT my skin has been clearer! Less breakouts around my cycle. Has anyone else experienced this side benefit? Also, is there any concern about taking it long-term? I've seen mixed things online.

As a mom of three, I'm always cautious about supplements. My naturopath recommended NAC for my son's respiratory issues, but I'm hesitant. Are there any clean, third-party tested brands you all trust? I won't give my kids anything with questionable fillers. Also, what's the youngest age you'd consider NAC for? My oldest is 8 and struggles with focus in school.

KetoKevin38 - No blood work yet, but planning to get my annual panel next month. Will share if I see glutathione changes! CrystalCathy30 - The skin benefits make sense given NAC's antioxidant properties. I've read it can help with conditions like acne. OrganicOlivia - I use NOW Foods brand - they have good transparency. But for kids, definitely consult a pediatrician first. The studies I've seen typically involve adults.

OrganicOlivia, I'd be extremely cautious with children. Most NAC research is on adults, and the safety profile isn't as established for developing bodies. For focus issues in an 8-year-old, I'd look into omega-3s and magnesium first - better evidence base for pediatric use. CrystalCathy30, regarding long-term use: some studies suggest potential depletion of certain minerals with prolonged high doses, so cycling might be wise.
