Hey everyone, so I tried making my own omega-3 gummies at home using gelatin and some fish oil powder I bought online. Followed a basic gummy recipe but they came out super oily and separated, like the oil just pooled at the bottom of the molds. Tasted awful too, super fishy. Anyone have tips for getting the powder to blend better? Or should I switch to agar agar instead? I really want to make these work for my kids.

XenonX82, first off, bless you for taking control of your family's wellness! Fish oil can be tricky because it's hydrophobic. I've had success with a flaxseed-based omega-3 powder—it's plant-based and blends smoother. Also, add a bit of lecithin (sunflower or soy) as an emulsifier; it helps bind the oil and water. And maybe a dash of local honey or lemon zest to mask the taste? The earth provides solutions if we listen!

Interesting issue! Based on my research, gelatin might not be ideal for fat-soluble nutrients like omega-3s—it can cause separation. Agar agar could work better as it sets firmer and may stabilize emulsions. Also, check your fish oil powder's concentration; some have low bioavailability in gummy form. A 2021 study in the Journal of Dietary Supplements noted that microencapsulated omega-3 powders perform better in homemade recipes. Have you tried pre-mixing the powder with a small amount of warm liquid first?

Thanks both! LemonLiam335, I'll grab some lecithin and try the flaxseed powder—sounds less fishy. HolisticHolly803, that makes sense, I didn't pre-mix the powder, just dumped it in. I'll experiment with agar agar next batch and warm the liquid first. Any tips on mold temperature? My kitchen's pretty cool, around 65°F.

Ooh, temperature matters! Keep your molds at room temp or slightly warmer—cold can make the oil solidify and separate. I pour my mix into molds right after heating, then let them set naturally. And yes, pre-mixing is key! Let us know how it goes. Remember, healing is a journey, not a destination!
