Flying with Omega-3 Gummies: Melt Risk or TSA Trouble?
Hey all! Heading out on a cross-country flight next week and I want to bring my omega-3 gummies but I'm worried they'll melt or cause issues at TSA. Also doing some hiking after, so I need them to survive that too. Any tips?
Melting is real. I once left some in my car on a hot day and they turned into one big blob. For travel, I'd put them in a small pill organizer or keep them in the original bottle. TSA won't care as long as they're in your carry-on and not liquid. But honestly, I'd just buy a small pack of omega-3 capsules for the trip - less hassle.
Gummies are just candy with fish oil. They'll melt if it's hot, but in a plane cabin it's usually cool. Keep them in your carry-on, not checked. TSA treats them like solid food, so no issue. But if you're hiking, they might soften but survive. Just don't leave them in direct sun. I'd rather take a higher-quality liquid or pill since gummies have added sugar, but to each his own.
Ugh, most omega-3 gummies aren't vegan anyway. But if you found vegan ones, make sure they have a good amount of DHA/EPA. Melting? Not a big deal. Use a hard case or wrap in a ziplock. TSA is fine. For hiking, keep them in a cool part of your pack. But honestly, I'd skip the gummies and eat some flax or chia seeds on the trail. Better for you and the planet.
I travel a lot for medical conferences! Gummies are fine at security - they're solid. Just declare if asked. To prevent melting, put them in a cool spot, like a pocket near your water bottle. But if they're in a carry-on and it's a long flight, they might get soft due to cabin pressure changes? Not sure. I'd also recommend a travel-friendly hard case. And remember, if you have heart issues like me, omega-3s are a must. Better to bring a separate bottle of pills as a backup.
