Mixing Omega-3 Gummies with My Morning Coffee - Safe?
Hey all, I just started taking omega-3 gummies and I was wondering if I can have them with my morning coffee. I like to take my vitamins with my coffee to save time, but I'm not sure if the heat or caffeine messes with the omega-3. Any thoughts?
As a retired nurse, I'd say you're probably fine, but it's best to take omega-3 with a meal that contains some fat to help absorption. Coffee alone might not be ideal. Also, hot drinks could potentially degrade the gelatin or nutrients if left in the heat for too long, but just popping it with a sip of coffee shouldn't be a problem. I'd take them with your breakfast instead.
Honestly, I'm skeptical about gummy supplements in general. But mixing with coffee is the least of your worries. The real issue is that gummies are packed with sugar and might not have the right dose. If you're gonna take omega-3, just get the fish oil capsules. But to answer your question, I don't think coffee will kill you, but it might reduce absorption. Whatever.
I'm a bit of a traditionalist, so I prefer natural sources like flaxseed or chia. But if you're set on gummies, I'd avoid taking them with coffee. Coffee is acidic and might interfere with the omega-3. Maybe take it with orange juice or a glass of water? And definitely not with other supplements like iron or calcium, because they can compete for absorption. Just my two cents.
Since I do intermittent fasting, I take my omega-3 gummies during my eating window, but not with coffee. Coffee on an empty stomach is fine, but gummies might break a fast due to the sugar. If you're fasting, skip the coffee and take them with your first meal. If not, whatever, just don't make a habit of it. I've read that caffeine can reduce omega-3 absorption by like 20%, so better to space it out an hour or so.
