Mixing Omega-3 Gummies with My Morning Coffee?
Hey everyone! So I just started taking these omega-3 gummies (they're delish btw) and I usually have a cup of joe right after waking up. I was wondering if it's cool to have them together or if I should wait a bit? Also, does caffeine mess with the absorption or anything? Any science-y folks out there?
Good question! From what I've read, omega-3 fatty acids are fat-soluble, so they're best absorbed with a meal containing fat. Coffee, especially if black, won't help much with absorption. But it's not harmful either. Some studies suggest caffeine might slightly affect how your body processes fats, but not to a degree that would make your supplement useless. I'd say take them with a meal that has some healthy fats, like avocado toast or eggs, and you can still enjoy your coffee. Just space them out by 30 mins if you're worried.
Oh, coffee and gummies? That's fine, but I'd be more concerned about the sugar content of those gummies. My grandkids love them, but they're basically candy. And I've read that too much sugar can interfere with omega-3 benefits. Maybe try to take them with breakfast, not just coffee. Also, check with your doctor if you're on blood thinners, just in case.
Honestly, I pop my omega-3 gummies with my pre-workout (which is basically a truckload of caffeine) and I've never had issues. Been doing it for 2 years. I think the whole 'absorption' thing is overblown. Just make sure you're consistent. And if you're hitting the gym, the caffeine might actually give you a nice boost. No worries, mate.
