Okay so I tried making my own omega-3 gummies using fish oil and some gelatin. I followed a recipe online but they came out super hard and rubbery. I used 4 tbsp of gelatin for 1 cup of juice and added the fish oil, but they are like chewing on tires! Any tips on how to fix this? Or should I just stick to store-bought?

Girl, I feel you. I tried making elderberry gummies last winter and they were a total fail - too tough! I think you're using way too much gelatin. For a softer chew, you need like half that amount. Also, did you bloom the gelatin in cold water first? That makes a big difference. Maybe try agar next time - it's more forgiving.

Yooo, I use agar instead of gelatin because I'm plant-based. But the trick is to not overheat the liquid, and let it cool a bit before adding the oil. Also, adding a little lecithin can help emulsify the oil so it doesn't separate. I'd say try one batch with less gelling agent and see if that helps.

Did you maybe add the oil while the mixture was too hot? That can break down the gelatin. I've made gummies with vitamin D drops and the key is low heat. Also, I find that using a silicone mold makes them easier to get out. If they're still too hard, you can microwave them for a few seconds to soften.

Honestly, why go through the trouble? Store-bought are cheap and you know they're dosed right. But if you're set on DIY, maybe you're adding too much fish oil. That can affect the texture too. Try cutting back and use a higher quality fish oil that doesn't have a strong taste. Also, make sure you let them set in the fridge, not on the counter.
