THREAD: My toddler thinks my omega-3 gummies are candy - help!Started by OP

So I started taking these omega-3 gummy supplements for heart health, and my 4-year-old son caught me eating them yesterday. He immediately started begging for 'candy' and threw a full-on tantrum when I said no. I tried explaining they're vitamins, not candy, but he just kept pointing and crying 'candy! candy!' Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm worried he's going to find them and eat the whole bottle thinking they're treats.

Oh dear, I've been there! My grandson did the exact same thing with my vitamin D gummies last year. You absolutely must keep them locked up high - I use a childproof container on the top shelf of my pantry. Also, try getting him his own children's omega-3 gummies (they make them in fun shapes!) so he has 'his' vitamins and you have yours. That worked wonders for us. Safety first!

As a fitness pro, I recommend switching to liquid omega-3 or capsules if possible. Gummies often have added sugars anyway, which defeats some health benefits. But if you're set on gummies, maybe store them with your medicine instead of in the kitchen? Out of sight, out of mind for kids. Also, my husband used to hate the fishy aftertaste of some brands - texture matters!

Texture is EVERYTHING! I've tried like 8 different omega-3 gummy brands because some are way too chewy or have that weird gelatin mouthfeel. The Nordic Naturals ones have a better texture IMO - less sticky. But yeah, kids will definitely think they're candy. Maybe try making it a 'grown-up medicine' ritual? Like, eat yours with a glass of water at a specific time so he learns it's not snack time.

Thanks everyone! GummyGuru328 - ordering kid versions now, genius idea. CrystalCathy155 - good point about sugar, I'll check the label. BioBob - the texture thing is real, mine are kinda rubbery. Update: just caught my husband sneaking them too because 'they taste better than the pills' - guess I need to hide them from everyone!
