VASCEPA and omega-3 gummies – any connection?
Just saw this article about Amarin and VASCEPA for high triglycerides. I know it's a prescription, but does anyone here take prescription omega-3 vs. gummy supplements? Seems like the science is moving fast. curious if gummies can even come close to those results.
I've had clients ask about this. Prescription icosapent ethyl is super concentrated EPA. Most gummies have way less EPA/DHA and no clinical proof for trig reduction. They're more for general health. I'd say stick with fish oil capsules if you need high dose, but gummies are good for maintenance.
As a retired nurse, I've seen statins and fish oil work but not always enough. VASCEPA is a game changer for high trigs. But for everyday wellness, I use Nordic Naturals gummies. They have decent EPA. Just watch the added sugars.
The REDUCE-IT trial showed VASCEPA reduces CV risk even with statins. That's a big deal. But gummy supplements aren't regulated like drugs. If you have high trigs, talk to your doc. For prevention, a good omega-3 gummy with at least 500mg EPA might help, but don't expect miracles.
