Costco deal on gummy powders - too good to be true?
So I was at Costco and found these gummy vitamin powders on clearance - like half price! I'm talking the ones you mix in water, not the chewables. I grabbed a few tubs but now I'm second-guessing: does the low price mean they're expired or lower quality? Or did I just hit the jackpot? Anyone tried these before?
Honestly, check the expiration date first. I've bought discounted supplements at Costco and they were fine, just close to expiring. As long as you use them within a month or two, you're good. Quality-wise, I doubt they're worse just because they're on sale. Big brands don't usually compromise on ingredients. I'd say you scored! Keep us posted on how they taste.
Oh I've seen those! I got a sample once from a friend. They're actually pretty good. But I can't speak on the price thing. I usually buy organic, but if it's a good deal and ingredients are clean, why not? Maybe check the back for any additives or sugar content. Sometimes 'on sale' means they changed the formula or something.
I wouldn't worry. I used to work at a supplement store, and companies often put products on sale when they're rebranding or they overproduced. The quality is the same. Also, Costco is notorious for negotiating deals, so it's not all clearance junk. I'd buy a bunch if you like them. Worst case, you can return them if they don't seem right.
From a chemistry perspective: as long as the active ingredients are within their potency window (check the lot number and maybe call the manufacturer), the price is irrelevant. The cost to produce is a small fraction of what you pay. Sales are just marketing. You're fine. But also, mixing powders in water is a great way to control dose - I dissolve mine in smoothies. Enjoy!
