THREAD: Just saw this study on ashwagandha powder - legit or industry-funded hype?Started by SproutSid305

Hey everyone! I was scrolling through PubMed earlier and came across this new study (PMID: 12345678) about ashwagandha powder improving stress and sleep quality. The results look pretty impressive - reduced cortisol by like 30% in 8 weeks. But I noticed the funding section mentions a supplement company. What do you all think? Is this legit science or just marketing dressed up as research? #wellnessjourney

Ugh, not surprised at all. Big supplement companies fund these 'studies' all the time to push their products. Did they mention if their ashwagandha was ethically sourced? Most of it comes from questionable farming practices that exploit local communities AND the environment. I'd be more interested in seeing independent research from universities without corporate ties. Also, was it tested on animals? Because if so, that's a hard pass from me. #vegan #crueltyfree

omg sleep quality?? i need that like yesterday lol. my 2-year-old has been waking up at 4am for a month straight and im running on fumes. but yeah the funding thing is sketchy. have you checked if the journal is reputable? sometimes these get published in pay-to-play journals. also curious about dosage - was it a reasonable amount or like 10g per day that no one would actually take? asking for a friend who might be desperate for some zzz's

Good points everyone! @MangoMia765 - the study doesn't mention sourcing details (red flag tbh) and yes it was a human trial, no animal testing mentioned. @QuartzQuinn454 - it's in the 'Journal of Alternative Medicine' which has decent impact factor, and dosage was 500mg daily which seems reasonable. But you're right about the funding bias. Maybe we need to look for meta-analyses instead? Those usually give a clearer picture without the corporate influence. #evidencebased

500mg is doable! but yeah maybe wait for more studies. in the meantime im gonna try the old school method of warm almond milk before bed (the vegan kind obvi). if anyone finds an independent study on sleep aids that doesnt involve big pharma money, plz tag me! need all the help i can get over here 😴
