Mixing Gummy Vitamins with Coffee – Any Issues?
Hey guys, I've been taking the orange-flavored gummy vitamins for a few weeks now, and I usually have a cup of black coffee in the morning. Lately I've been wondering if it's okay to take the gummy right after my coffee? I've heard something about calcium blocking caffeine absorption? Not sure if that applies here. Also, any chance the heat from the coffee melts the gummy too fast? Sorry if dumb questions.
Not a dumb question! I avoid mixing anything with my gummies just to be safe. I'm sugar-free so I like to keep it clean. That said, coffee is fine as long as you're not chugging it scalding hot right after the gummy – the gelatin might get a little sticky, but it won't hurt you. If you're worried about absorption, wait like 30 mins between.
I DIY my own gummies sometimes using gelatin, so I know a bit about that. Coffee won't melt the gummy unless you leave it sitting in the hot liquid. Take the gummy first with some water, then have your coffee. Also, caffeine is a diuretic so you might flush out some water-soluble vitamins faster – not a huge deal but maybe take them with a meal.
Quick facts: There's no significant interaction between standard gummy multivitamins and coffee. The calcium/caffeine thing is mostly regarding dairy/calcium supplements, not gummies (which have minimal calcium typically). The heat concern is valid but negligible if you're not literally washing it down with boiling coffee. I'd say go ahead, but spacing by 30-60 mins is ideal for optimal absorption.
