My toddler thinks my protein powder is pixie dust - help!
Okay, so I'm running on 3 hours of sleep here, and I just caught my 4-year-old trying to 'sprinkle magic' on her cereal with my unflavored collagen powder. She saw me mixing it into my coffee yesterday and now thinks it's fairy dust. I managed to stop her before she dumped the whole container, but now she's demanding 'sparkle breakfast.' Has anyone else's kids confused supplements with something magical (or just really tasty-looking)?
OMG yes! My husband did something similar last month. I have this green superfood powder that looks exactly like matcha. He made himself a 'matcha latte' with THREE SCOOPS before realizing it wasn't sweet at all. Let's just say his digestive system was... surprised. Now I keep all powders in clearly labeled opaque containers. Kids AND spouses apparently can't be trusted!
Fascinating psychological phenomenon! The visual similarity between powdered supplements and culinary ingredients triggers pattern recognition in developing brains (and sleepy adults). From a safety perspective: always store supplements in child-resistant containers, preferably in high cabinets. The texture issue is interesting too - many children refuse gritty textures. Have you tried mixing the collagen into smoothies or oatmeal where the texture disappears?
Texture is EVERYTHING. I had to stop using that popular greens powder because it felt like drinking sand no matter how much I blended it. For kids (and picky adults), try mixing powders into things that mask texture: yogurt, applesauce, or even pancake batter. Pro tip: a tiny bit of honey or maple syrup in the mix makes most supplement powders way more palatable. Also, maybe get your daughter some actual edible glitter for her cereal? Just a thought!
