THREAD: Powdered supplements turning into candy? Sugar content rant!Started by MindfulMila730

Ugh, I just picked up a new gummy vitamin powder for my kids and it's basically just sugar with a sprinkle of vitamins! The label says 'natural flavors' but it tastes like candy. Aren't we supposed to be promoting health here? I feel like these companies are just preying on parents who want convenience. My kids already get enough sugar from snacks - I don't need it in their supplements too. Anyone else frustrated by this?

I feel you, Mila! As a runner, I use electrolyte powders during long training sessions, and some of them are SO sweet. I get that they need to be palatable, but when I'm trying to fuel my body for a marathon, I don't want 20g of sugar per serving. There's gotta be a balance. Have you tried mixing plain vitamin powders into smoothies or yogurt? That's what I do - way less sugar and you control what goes in.

Night shift worker here - convenience is everything for me. I don't have time to mix powders into food when I'm rushing to work at 10pm. The flavored gummy powders are a lifesaver - just shake with water and go. Yeah, they have some sugar, but it's better than skipping supplements entirely. Maybe look for ones with stevia or monk fruit instead of regular sugar? Just my two cents.

Steve, I get the convenience factor, but shouldn't health products actually be... healthy? Wendy, I do make smoothies sometimes, but mornings are chaotic with two kids. Maybe I need to meal prep supplement mixes on weekends. Still feels like we shouldn't HAVE to do extra work to avoid sugar in something marketed as 'healthy.'

Totally agree it shouldn't be this hard! Maybe we should start a list of low-sugar powder brands? I've had good luck with 'PureFuel' and 'CleanBoost' - they use minimal sweeteners. Steve, have you tried those? Might work for your night shifts without the sugar crash. Mila, maybe check if they have kids versions?
