Are prenatal gummies just candy in disguise?
Okay, I know I'm gonna get some pushback, but I have to say it: these prenatal gummies are basically candy. I checked the label on my bottle and it has 5g of added sugar per serving! That's more than a gummy bear. Are we really okay with taking 'supplements' that are loaded with sugar? Seems counterintuitive to me.
I get where you're coming from, but honestly, the convenience of gummies is what keeps me consistent. I used to gag on those giant horse pills. Plus, some studies show that the sugar helps absorption of certain nutrients? Not sure if that's bro-science though. 🤔
I agree with Indigo. It's a slippery slope. My dentist actually warned me about the sugar content. And let's be real, they taste so good I'm tempted to eat more than the recommended dose. That can't be safe for the baby or my teeth.
I switched to a sugar-free prenatal gummy sweetened with stevia. Problem solved. They taste a little weird at first but you get used to it. Check out the brand 'Clean Prenatal' - they use chicory root fiber for texture. No sugar crash later either.
Thanks for the rec, BioBob. I'll look into that. I think the issue is that a lot of people don't even realize how much sugar they're consuming. When I started tracking, I was shocked. But yeah, I also understand why gummies are popular. Just wish companies would offer better options without all the sweeteners.
