My prenatal gummies changed color and got hard - are they still safe to take?

Hey everyone, hoping for some advice. I've been taking these prenatal gummy vitamins for about 3 months now, and I just opened a new bottle yesterday. They look different! Some have white spots on them (like sugar bloom maybe?), and they're way harder than usual - almost crunchy. A few are stuck together too. They're not expired (date is next year), but I'm worried about taking them while pregnant. Has anyone else had this happen? Are they still safe to eat?

OP, I'd be cautious. The supplement industry is barely regulated, and changes like that could indicate improper storage or manufacturing issues. Those white spots might be mold or bacterial growth, not just sugar bloom. Hard texture suggests moisture loss or chemical changes. Personally, I wouldn't risk it during pregnancy - too many unknowns. Have you contacted the manufacturer? They might give you a generic 'safe' answer to avoid liability, but I'd listen to your gut here.

Ugh, I feel you! This happened with my toddler's vitamin gummies last winter - they turned into little rocks and stuck together in one big clump. I called the company and they said it was just 'sugar crystallization' from temperature changes and still safe, but I threw them out anyway. With prenatal stuff, I'm extra paranoid. Maybe switch to pills until you get a new bottle? Not worth the anxiety, mama. Did you store them somewhere humid like the bathroom?

Ah, the classic gummy dilemma! Reminds me of my 2018 blog series 'The Great Supplement Texture Investigation' where I left gummies in various conditions for months. White spots are almost always sugar bloom (harmless), and hardening usually means they dried out. Sticking together happens with heat. They're PROBABLY fine chemically, but texture-wise? Not enjoyable. That said, during my wife's pregnancy, we stuck to capsules for consistency. Nostalgic for simpler times when gummies stayed perfect! Maybe keep the bottle as a science experiment and get a fresh one?
