Are probiotic gummies just candy in disguise?
I've been seeing so many probiotic gummies with 3-5g of sugar per serving. That's basically candy! Why not just take a pill or powder? Sure, they taste good, but we're supposed to be taking supplements for health, not to spike our blood sugar. I'm really disappointed with the 'candy-fication' of supplements.
I get where you're coming from, but for me, the gummies are a lifesaver. I have a hard time swallowing pills, and I always forget to take powders. I know they have some sugar, but I only take one a day, so it's a small price to pay for consistency. Plus, they make me feel like I'm treating myself, which makes it easier to stick to my routine.
As a mom, I'm really torn. My kids won't take anything that doesn't taste like candy, so gummies are the only way I can get them to take probiotics. But at the same time, I worry about the sugar and the message it sends. I wish there were more low-sugar options that kids actually like. For now, I just try to brush their teeth after and call it a treat. Does anyone have a brand they recommend?
Have you considered sugar-free versions? Some use erythritol or stevia. They might be easier on the teeth and still taste good. I found a brand that uses xylitol, but be careful with xylitol if you have dogs. Anyway, they do exist, so you don't have to settle for sugary ones.
I've tried those sugar-free ones, and honestly, they can cause digestive upset for some people. Plus, they don't taste as good. For me, it's a balancing act. But you're right, if you're really concerned, there are alternatives. I just think we should all do what works for us and not judge those who prefer the sugar. Haha.
