Are Probiotic Gummies Just Candy in Disguise?

I've been taking probiotic gummies for a while now, but I just noticed they have 5g of added sugar per serving! That's like eating candy every day. I'm starting to think I might as well just eat a spoonful of sugar with some yogurt instead of these 'healthy' gummies. What's the point if they're full of sugar?

I feel you! I stopped giving my kids gummy vitamins because of the sugar. But my husband swears by them since they're easier to remember to take. I guess it's a trade-off. Have you considered switching to pills or powders? Might be less sugar, but let's be real, they're not as fun.

Yep, the 'candy-fication' is real. I was shocked too when I looked at the label. But not all gummies are equal – some use sugar alcohols or natural sweeteners. Maybe try a brand with no added sugar? I found one made with monk fruit. Also, I take them like a treat after meals, so it's a nice little dessert that boosts my gut. Just gotta read the fine print.

Thanks for the tip, EcoEllen. I'll look for a no-added-sugar version. But don't you think it's still kind of a placebo? I mean, are we really getting the probiotic benefits from a gummy? The live cultures in gummies might not survive the process. That's my biggest worry.

That's a good point! I hadn't even thought about whether the bacteria even survive. Maybe I should just stick to the capsules I've been using. But then I'll miss the gummy taste... ugh. Guess I need to weigh the conveniece vs. actual efficacy. Thanks for the input, all!
