THREAD: DIY Probiotic Gummies Disaster - Help Needed!Started by QuartzQuinn258

Hey everyone, tried making my own probiotic gummies last night and it was a total fail. Used gelatin, some probiotic powder I got online, and a bit of honey. They came out super rubbery and wouldn't set right - more like weird jello blobs. Anyone have a solid recipe that actually works? Trying to avoid all the sugar in store-bought ones for my post-workout routine.

Probiotics are heat-sensitive. If you heated the mixture too much, you probably killed them. I use agar agar instead of gelatin - simpler and plant-based. Mix with cool liquid first, then gentle heat just until it dissolves. Add powders at the very end, off the heat. Less is more: basic recipe, minimal ingredients.

QuartzQuinn258, as a retired nurse, I'd caution about DIY supplements. Stability and dosage are tricky! That said, for gummies: ensure your gelatin bloomed properly in cold water first. Rubberiness often means too much gelatin or over-stirring. What was your powder-to-liquid ratio? Also, are you certain your probiotic powder is meant for cooking? Some are enteric-coated and won't survive stomach acid anyway.

Thanks both! Noah - didn't think about the heat, I definitely boiled it. Liam - used 1 tbsp gelatin to 1 cup juice, maybe that was off? The powder just said 'probiotic blend' on Amazon. Maybe I'll try agar and low heat like you said. Any favorite molds? Mine stuck like crazy.

Silicone molds, light oil spray. 1:1 ratio often works with agar. Add a pinch of citric acid for shelf life. Remember: you're making a delivery system, not a pharmaceutical product. Manage expectations.
