My probiotic gummies changed color and got hard - are they still safe to eat?

Hey everyone, I need some advice! I've been taking these probiotic gummies for about a month, and I just noticed they've changed color from a bright orange to a dull brownish shade. They also feel really hard and some are sticking together in the bottle. I keep them in my kitchen cabinet, not in the fridge like some people do. Are these still safe to take? I don't want to waste them if they're fine, but I'm worried about getting sick.

Oh honey, that's nature's way of telling you those gummies have lost their vital energy! When supplements change like that, it means the probiotics have likely died off. Your body needs living cultures for gut health. I'd toss them and switch to a refrigerated probiotic - the cold preserves the life force better. Or better yet, try fermented foods like kimchi or kombucha! They're more natural and you can see/smell when they go off.

Med student here. What you're describing sounds like sugar bloom (crystallization) and oxidation - common with gummies exposed to heat or humidity. While not necessarily dangerous, the probiotic efficacy is probably compromised. Most probiotics have a shelf life and require proper storage. Check the expiration date and storage instructions. If they're past date or stored improperly, I wouldn't risk it - ineffective at best, potential for mild GI upset at worst. When in doubt, throw it out!

Ugh I've had this happen with my pre-workout gummies too! Usually means they got too warm. For fitness goals, you want supplements that are actually effective. Hard gummies = dead probiotics = wasted money and no gut benefits. I'd recycle the bottle and get a new one, but store it somewhere cool and dry this time. Maybe even portion them into a smaller container so you're not opening the main bottle as often. And yeah, check that expiry date!

Thanks everyone! The bottle says store in a cool, dry place and expires next year, but my kitchen does get warm when I'm cooking. Sounds like they're probably not harmful but also not doing much for me anymore. I'll toss them and be more careful with the next bottle. Appreciate the help!
