Probiotic Gummies on sale at Costco - steal or sketchy?
Hey everyone! I was at Costco today and saw a huge tub of probiotic gummies (brand: SmartyPants) on sale for like $12 off. I know sometimes when stuff is deeply discounted it's because it's close to expiry or lower quality. But this seems like a good deal? Anyone tried these? Are they as effective as the expensive ones from Whole Foods? I'm a yoga instructor so I'm all about gut health but also on a budget lol. Thanks!
Dude, Costco sales are legit. I've been taking those same gummies for months. They're not as strong as the refrigerated probiotics but for maintenance they're fine. I hit PRs at crossfit and my stomach doesn't hate me. Just check the expiration date. If it's within 3 months, skip it. Otherwise, stock up!
I travel a lot and those gummies are a lifesaver. But careful – some brands pack them with sugar or corn syrup. SmartyPants uses organic cane sugar I think. Still, if you're strict keto, check the carbs. For the price at Costco, it's a steal. I've bought them in bulk and never had issues. Just don't leave them in a hot car (learned that the hard way).
As a retired nurse, I always say: you get what you pay for. But Costco has high turnover, so the stock is usually fresh. Just compare the CFU count to other brands. If it's 5 billion or more, it's decent. Also, make sure they're stored properly – if they're on a pallet near the front door where it's warm, the bacteria might be less viable. I'd say go for it, but maybe also eat some fermented foods. Kefir is great!
Thanks everyone! I checked and the expiry is 8 months out. CFU is 5 billion. I grabbed two bottles. Fingers crossed my gut thanks me. And Holly, I love kefir but it's so expensive here. Gummies are easier for travel too. Appreciate the tips!
