Hey everyone! I'm a marathon runner and wanted to try making my own shilajit gummies for post-run recovery. I used gelatin, some vitamin powders (B12, D, and shilajit resin), and a bit of honey. Followed a basic recipe online but they came out super rubbery and smell weird. Any tips? Is it the shilajit that ruins the texture? Or maybe I used too much gelatin? Help a runner out! 😅

Oh man, I've been there! I tried making my own gummies with caffeine powder (for my coffee addiction shhh) and agar instead of gelatin. They turned into a sticky mess. Shilajit is strong stuff - maybe the acidity messed with the gelatin? Try using a bit of citric acid to balance pH next time? Also, did you bloom the gelatin properly? That's crucial.

Hi! I'm a huge fan of DIY gummies - I make herbal ones with ashwagandha and reishi. For shilajit, I'd recommend using a lower temp when mixing, and maybe add some lecithin to help emulsify the resin. Also, are you using powdered shilajit or the tar-like stuff? The resin can be tricky. Also, check your gelatin: bloom in cold water first! Hope that helps! 🍃

Thanks for the replies! I used the resin form of shilajit, and I did bloom the gelatin, but maybe I rushed it. I'll try lower heat and add lecithin next time. Also, Flora, good point about pH - I'll add a pinch of citric acid. TeaTina, what ratio do you use for agar vs gelatin? I'm considering trying agar for a vegan option. Also, any tips on masking the shilajit taste? It's kinda… earthy.

For agar, I use about 1 tsp agar powder to 1 cup liquid, but it sets firmer than gelatin. You might want to blend it with a softer gelling agent. For taste, honey and a bit of orange zest work wonders with shilajit! I also add a dash of cinnamon. Good luck, Claire! Let us know how the next batch goes!
