Homemade Shilajit Gummies: Too Sticky, What Went Wrong?
Hey all! I tried making my own shilajit gummies at home using gelatin and shilajit powder. I followed a recipe but they turned out super sticky and didn't set properly. Anyone have tips for getting the right texture? I used 2 tbsp gelatin and 1/2 cup water, plus 1 tsp shilajit powder. Should I add more gelatin or maybe use less water?
Hey Mike! I've been making gummies for a while. Sticky usually means not enough gelatin or the mixture didn't get hot enough. Try blooming the gelatin in cold water first (let it sit for 5 mins) before heating. And make sure you bring it to a simmer but not boil. Also, shilajit powder can be a bit acidic, which can break down gelatin. Maybe try adding a pinch of citric acid? Or use agar agar if you want a firmer set, but it's a different texture. Good luck!
Honestly, why bother making your own? Store-bought have consistent quality and dosage. Homemade can be a waste of time and money. But if you insist, maybe add more gelatin or use a candy thermometer to get it to 240°F. That's what works for hard candies.
Thanks for the tips! I'll try blooming first and maybe add a bit more gelatin. Victor, does agar work better for shilajit? I might try that next. And Frank, I get your point, but I like controlling the ingredients. Plus it's cheaper in the long run. I'll update with results!
