Shilajit gummies turned hard and white - safe to eat?
Hey all, I bought a fresh bottle of Shilajit gummies last week and already they've turned hard and have this white powdery coating on them. They also stick together in a clump. Is this normal? Are they still safe to eat? I hate to throw them away if they're fine.
Same thing happened to my first batch! It's called sugar bloom - the sugar crystallizes on the surface when they get exposed to moisture or temperature changes. They're still safe, just less tasty maybe. I've eaten them like that plenty of times.
Ugh, I had that issue with a different brand. They turned into a rock. I still ate them, no problems. But if they smell funky or taste off, toss 'em. Also storing in the fridge can help prevent that.
As a retired nurse, I'd say if they're just hard and have a white film, it's likely a harmless sugar bloom. But if you see any spots that look like mold, or they have an off odor, don't risk it. Trust your gut. I'd probably eat them if they're within date.
