Anyone else having weird dreams after taking sleep gummies?
Hey all, been taking these melatonin sleep gummies for about a week now to help with my weekend recovery sleep. They work great for knocking me out after long hikes, but I've been having the craziest vivid dreams! Like, last night I dreamed I was racing mountain bikes with talking squirrels. Anyone else experience this? Is it normal or should I be concerned?
BerryBen, totally normal from what I've read! I teach yoga and recommend sleep supplements to students sometimes. Melatonin can definitely affect REM sleep and dream intensity. I take a lower dose (1mg) and still get occasional vivid dreams - last week I dreamed I was teaching downward dog to dolphins lol. Maybe try cutting your dose in half? Also, are you taking them consistently at the same time each night? That can help regulate the effect.
Blessings, dreamers! The vivid dreams are actually a sign your pineal gland is awakening. In my holistic practice, I see this often with sleep gummies containing melatonin or valerian root. The talking squirrels in your dream, BerryBen, might represent your connection to nature! Try journaling these dreams - they could be messages from your higher self. Just make sure your gummies are clean (no artificial colors or sweeteners) as those can disrupt energetic flow too.
Thanks both! HubermanHopeful - I'm taking 3mg about an hour before bed, maybe that's too much for me. Will try halving it. GummyGuru - they're the organic kind from Whole Foods, so should be clean. The dreams aren't scary or anything, just really random and intense. Glad to know I'm not alone! Maybe I'll start keeping a dream journal like you suggest.
3mg is definitely on the higher side for most people! Most research suggests 0.5-1mg is optimal. Also try taking them 2-3 hours before bed instead of 1 hour - aligns better with natural circadian rhythm. Let us know how the lower dose works! And if the dreams persist but you're sleeping well, it's probably harmless. My dolphin yoga dream was actually pretty inspiring haha
