Are Sleep Gummies Just Candy in Disguise?
Okay, I gotta vent. I'm trying to cut out sugar from my diet (Paleo for life!), but I see all these 'sleep gummies' with 3g of sugar per serving?! That's basically candy. Why can't they just make a clean melatonin pill? Are we really that addicted to sweets that we can't take a supplement without it tasting like a fruit snack? Gah.
I feel you Tina, but hear me out. I'm a coffee addict and melatonin doesn't do jack for me without a little something something. The gummies actually help me wind down because it's like a treat before bed. Plus, 3g of sugar is nothing compared to the crap I eat anyway. Maybe just find a brand with natural sweeteners? They're not all bad.
Mom of three here. I get the concern, but honestly, convenience wins for me. My kids won't take pills, but they'll gladly chew a gummy. Yes, sugar isn't ideal, but I'd rather they get some sleep (and ME get some sleep!) than fight over a tablet. Also, some gummies use stevia or monk fruit. Have you looked into those?
Thanks for the replies. Pete, I guess I'm just frustrated with the 'candy-fication' of everything. Ken, that's a good point about kids. I didn't think of that. I just wish there were more options for us strict dieters. I'll check out the stevia ones. Any brand recs?
I use 'ZzzQuil Pure Zzzs' - they've got no artificial flavors and only like 1g sugar? More of a pectin thing. But also, if you're really worried, just bite the bullet and do a sublingual melatonin drip? Not as tasty but pure.
