THREAD: DIY Sleep Gummies Disaster - Help with Recipe & Vitamin Mixing!Started by OP

Hey everyone, so I tried making my own sleep gummies at home to save money and control ingredients. Used gelatin, some melatonin and magnesium powder I had, plus a little honey for sweetness. Followed a basic gummy recipe online but they came out super rubbery and the vitamin powder didn't mix well at all—gritty texture and weird separation. Anyone have a reliable recipe or tips for getting the powders to dissolve properly? Worried I'm wasting good supplements!

As a retired nurse, I'd caution about DIY supplements—dosing can be tricky! For your batch, the rubbery texture might mean too much gelatin or overheating. Try agar agar instead, it's plant-based and sets softer. For mixing powders, dissolve them in a small amount of warm liquid (like water or juice) first before adding to the gel mix. Also, are you sure your melatonin and magnesium are compatible? Check labels for fillers that might not dissolve. Start with small batches to test!

lol been there! I'm a digital nomad and tried this while traveling—total mess in a hostel kitchen. What worked for me: use a double boiler to melt everything slowly, and add a tiny bit of sunflower lecithin as an emulsifier (helps mix oils/powders). Also, maybe skip honey next time? It can make things weirdly sticky. I use stevia drops now. For sleep, I add a dash of chamomile tea to the liquid part—tastes better and adds to the chill vibes. Good luck!

Skeptical mom here—honestly, I'd just buy trusted brands. It's not worth the risk if you mess up the doses, especially for kids (if that's a factor). But if you're set on DIY, make sure your powders are micronized for better absorption and mixing. Also, try pouring the mix into molds while it's still pretty warm to prevent separation. And maybe test without vitamins first to get the gummy base right? Let us know how it goes, but I'm side-eyeing this whole idea, lol.

Another skeptical mom chiming in—I agree with HealthHacker on safety, but since you're experimenting... I've had success with a 1:3 ratio of gelatin to liquid (like juice or herbal tea). Heat gently, stir constantly, and add dissolved powders at the very end off the heat. If it's gritty, you might need to blend it with an immersion blender quick. Also, store in the fridge! And maybe start with just one supplement to isolate issues? Hope that helps, but yeah, be careful!
