Hey everyone! I'm new to making my own gummies at home. I tried making sleep gummies using gelatin and a melatonin powder, but they came out as a weird, blobby mess! They didn't set right, and they smell like fish. What went wrong? I used 2 tbsp gelatin, 1/2 cup water, and some cherry juice. Any tips?

Hey @SleepySeeker_88! Sorry to hear about your blob issue. A few things that might help: First, make sure you're blooming the gelatin in cold water first (let it sit for 5-10 mins) before heating. Also, avoid adding acidic juices like cherry juice directly to gelatin - it can break down the gelatin. Try using a more neutral liquid or add a bit of honey. Also, melatonin can be sensitive to heat, so add it after the mixture cools a bit. Good luck! Namaste.

I've had a similar fail before! The fishy smell might be from the gelatin you bought. Try using a high-quality grass-fed gelatin or even agar (if you prefer plant-based). I'd also recommend using a silicone mold and making sure the mixture is well-blended before pouring. I find that using a hand blender helps. Also, don't boil the mixture - just heat until everything is dissolved. Hang in there, it's a learning curve!

What @ZenZoe said! And if you're using agar, remember it sets at room temp - no fridge needed. But it can get rubbery if you use too much. For troubleshooting: if it's not setting, you might need more gelatin or let it sit longer. If it's hard, you used too much. I've been there. Also, for the fishy smell, try adding a bit of lemon juice or use a flavored gelatin mix. Keep experimenting, you'll get it!

Thanks everyone! I'll try blooming the gelatin and using less acidic juice. I'll also try a better gelatin brand. I'm going to give it another shot this weekend. Appreciate the help!
