Sleep gummies changed color and got hard - safe to eat?

Hey all, I bought a bottle of sleep gummies last month and noticed they've changed color (from purple to brownish) and they've gotten really hard, almost like they're coated in sugar. I checked the expiration date and it's fine. Are they still okay to eat? I don't want to toss a whole bottle if they're fine, but I also don't want to mess up my sleep or get sick.

Hmm, that color change and hardening usually means they've been exposed to moisture or heat. I've seen this happen with gummies that contain natural ingredients like fruit extracts - they can oxidize over time, changing color. The hardening might be sugar crystallization. From a safety standpoint, they're probably not harmful, but the texture is likely off and they might not have the same potency. I'd check the label for any specific storage instructions. Also, if you're vegan like me, make sure they don't contain gelatin - but that's another issue. If in doubt, maybe get a fresh bottle to be safe.

I second what Oliver said. I had a similar thing with my melatonin gummies - they got sticky and then hard. I emailed the company and they said it's because of temperature fluctuations during shipping, but they recommended discarding them if the texture changed significantly because the active ingredients might degrade. So I'd play it safe and get a new one. Also, if you're vegan, check for carrageenan or other additives - some can cause these changes. Personally, I always store my gummies in a cool, dry place to avoid this.

Oh, I've had this happen too! My gummies got a white coating and became like rocks. I just ate them anyway and they still worked... but the taste was off. I think it's just sugar bloom, not dangerous. But I'm not a scientist. If they smell funky or have mold, then definitely toss them. Otherwise, I'd probably eat them, but I wouldn't buy that brand again if it happens often. Have you tried contacting the manufacturer? They might send you a replacement or explain.
