Sleep gummies changed color & hard as rocks – still safe?
Hi everyone, I bought a bottle of sleep gummies (melatonin + chamomile) about 4 months ago. They were soft and purple, but now they're dark, hard, and kind of stuck together. They also have a white coating. I keep them in the bathroom cabinet. Are they still safe to eat? I don't want to waste them but also don't want to get sick.
Color change and hardening usually mean moisture loss and sugar crystallization. The white stuff is likely sugar bloom, not mold. But if they're sticking together, that's a sign of heat or humidity. Bathroom is the worst place for gummies. Honestly, for sleep gummies, I wouldn't risk it. Melatonin can degrade and you might get inconsistent dosing. Toss them.
Bro I've eaten gummies that were way worse than that. As long as no mold or weird smell, you're probably fine. But sleep gummies? If they're hard, just chew harder lol. I'm a student, I can't afford to waste $15. But if you're worried, cut one open and smell it. If it smells like chemicals or vinegar, chuck it.
My wife took some expired sleep gummies once and they gave her stomach cramps. Not worth it. Also, if they're stuck together, bacteria could grow in the sticky spots. I'd say throw them out and buy fresh. Store them in a cool, dry place next time – not the bathroom. Stay safe.
Thanks all. I think I'll toss them. Better safe than sorry. I'll get a new bottle and keep it in my bedroom drawer instead.
