Gummies on the Go: Melting, TSA, and Travel Tips?
Heading to the Rockies for a hiking trip next week, and I'm bringing my vitamin gummies along. I'm worried they'll melt in my backpack during the trek or in the car. Also, I'm flying to Denver - any TSA issues with gummies? Need some tips from fellow travelers!
I've taken gummies on multiple plane trips. TSA has never given me a second glance - just keep them in the original bottle or a clear bag. For melting, I learned the hard way: do NOT leave them in a hot car for hours. Now I keep them in a small cooler bag with an ice pack if it's hot. Works like a charm!
If you're hiking, I'd suggest storing them in a small container that's sealed well. Maybe you could even put them in a ziplock with a silica gel packet to control moisture. But for melting, it's a real issue. I once had my gummies turn into a blob in a backpack on a summer hike. Ever since, I've been more careful about insulation. Maybe a small thermos with ice? Might be overkill, but just a thought.
The melting point of standard gelatin-based gummies is around 90-95°F, so body heat and warm environments can definitely cause issues. For travel, consider using insulated containers or even a small thermos. You could also switch to pectin-based gummies which have a higher melting point, if that's an option. For TSA, as long as they're solid and not liquids, they should be fine. Just keep them in a carry-on for easy access. And if you're hiking, maybe consider storing them in a hip pack to keep them close but away from direct sun.
