Help! My gummies turned white and hard – still safe?

Hey everyone! I bought a big bottle of vitamin softgels a few months back. I noticed the other day that they've gotten really hard and some have this white powdery coating. They also kind of stick together. Are they still okay to eat? I hate wasting money.

I've had that happen before. It's called 'bloom' – basically the gelatin crystallizes or something. Usually still safe but doesn't taste as good. If it's just texture, I'd still eat them. But if there's mold or they smell off, toss 'em.

Actually, that white powder is sugar bloom from moisture changes. The hardening is from the gelatin losing moisture. It's not harmful, but the potency might degrade over time. Check the expiration date. If it's past, better to replace. But if it's within date, they're likely OK.

I've eaten gummies that looked like that and I'm still alive! LOL. Seriously though, I think it's fine. But to avoid it, I store my gummies in the fridge now – keeps them soft and prevents bloom. Maybe try that next time!

As a former nurse, I'd say it's a texture issue, not a safety one. The sugar bloom is harmless. But if the gummies are rock hard, they might be less effective if the ingredients have degraded. I'd probably still take them if they're not expired. Trust your gut – if they smell or taste off, don't risk it.
