Homemade Gummy Vitamins: Total Flop – Help!
Hey everyone! I tried making my own gummy vitamins with gelatin and vitamin powder, but they came out like rubbery blobs. My grandkids refused to eat them! Any tips on getting that soft, chewy texture?
Oh man, I've been there! The key is not to overheat the gelatin. I use a sous vide to keep it at 140°F. Also, try adding a little citric acid for tartness – helps mask the vitamin taste. What vitamin powder are you using?
I've had success with agar agar instead of gelatin – holds up better in warm climates. But you gotta boil it first, then cool to set. Ratio is 1 tbsp agar to 1 cup liquid. Also, use a silicone mold, not plastic. What went wrong exactly?
Thanks guys! NectarNina, I used a generic multivitamin powder. Maybe the heat killed the vitamins? I'll try the sous vide trick. Frank, I tried agar once and it came out gritty. Did you have that issue?
If it's gritty, you probably didn't dissolve it fully. I whisk constantly while heating. Also, for vitamins, consider using liquid extracts instead of powder – they blend better. Good luck!
