Hey everyone! I bought a bottle of vitamin D softgels a couple months ago and they've changed color (from clear to dark brown) and some are stuck together. They also smell a bit different. Are they still safe to take? I hate wasting money but don't wanna get sick.

Sorry, that sounds like oxidation or possibly heat damage. Softgels can degrade over time, especially if exposed to sunlight or heat. I'd toss 'em to be safe. Your health isn't worth the risk. Next time store in a cool, dark place!

I agree with SolarSam. If they're sticking and changing color, the gelatin shell might be breaking down. Could be due to moisture or old age. I've had that happen with fish oil. Not worth it. Get fresh ones. Also, maybe check if they contain sugar alcohols – some people say that affects texture.

Oof, I remember when gummy vitamins first came out and they'd turn into a blob in the bottle. Honestly, if they're hard and stuck, the gelatin is compromised. I wouldn't eat them. Contact the company, they might send you a replacement. My grandma used to say 'when in doubt, throw it out'!

I've had this happen before and I was fine, but I wouldn't risk it personally. The color change sounds like the vitamin itself might be oxidizing, which can reduce potency. Better safe than sorry. Maybe use them as a reminder to buy smaller bottles next time so they stay fresh.
