My kid thought my softgels were gummy bears... send help
So I left my bottle of multivitamin softgels on the kitchen counter this morning. My 4-year-old, the little ninja, managed to open the 'child-proof' cap (yeah right) and ate like 5 of them before I caught him. He said they were 'the best gummy bears ever.' I freaked out and called poison control. They said he'd be fine, just might have an upset stomach. But now I'm paranoid. Anyone else have this happen? Also, any tips for hiding supplements from tiny humans? Namaste and thanks in advance.
LOL oh man, been there. My 3-year-old got into my fish oil softgels last month. She didn't eat them, but she squeezed them all over the carpet. Our living room smelled like a seafood market for a week. Now I keep everything in a locked cabinet. Child-proof caps are a joke for determined toddlers. Glad your kiddo is okay!
As a fitness pro and a dad of two, I feel your pain. My 5-year-old calls them 'mommy's candy' and begs for them. I had to switch to a brand that tastes terrible (no offense to the brand, but it's a feature). Also, I keep them on the top shelf of the pantry behind the quinoa. No kid ever looks behind quinoa. Pro tip: if you must keep them accessible, use a lockbox. They're cheap on Amazon.
Yikes! That's scary. I'm glad he's okay. My husband actually did the opposite—he refused to take his softgels because he said they felt like 'eating a slug.' I had to switch him to gummies instead. So now we have both softgels for me and gummies for him. But yeah, locking them up is key. I also read that some softgels can be toxic in large doses (like iron), so always call poison control just in case. You did the right thing!
Thanks everyone! I'm definitely getting a lockbox today. And @WaterWillow506, omg the fish oil carpet incident sounds like a nightmare. I can only imagine the smell. @DynamicDan786, behind the quinoa is genius. @ZenZoe342, my husband is the same way with textures! Maybe I'll get him gummies too. Appreciate the support, y'all.
