My Super Green Gummies turned hard and sugary - safe?
Hey all! So I've been taking Super Green Gummies for a couple months now. This morning I opened the bottle and noticed some of them have gotten really hard, and there's like a white film on the surface. They also seem to have lost that squishy texture. I'm worried they might have gone bad. Are they still safe to eat? I don't want to waste them, but I also don't want to get sick.
Oh no! That sounds like sugar bloom or something, maybe? I'm a marathon runner, so I eat a lot of energy chews, and I've seen that happen when they get exposed to moisture or temperature changes. I think it's just the sugar crystallizing on the outside and the gummies drying out a bit. Should be fine as long as they don't smell weird or taste off. Maybe just check the expiration date and if they're not past it, I'd eat them. But if you're unsure, you could always contact the company.
Also, check the ingredients. Some gummies have a coating that can change with humidity. I'm a gadget guy, so I keep my supplements in a cool, dry place with those silica gel packets. Helps prevent that. If they are just hard, you can try putting them in a ziplock with a damp paper towel for a few hours to soften them back up. That's what I do with my gummy vitamins when they get hard. Just make sure they don't get too wet. But yeah, safety-wise, they're probably okay.
From a DIY perspective, I'd say inspect them closely. If you see any mold or they smell sour, toss them. But if it's just a texture change, it's likely not a health risk. I actually make my own gummies sometimes, and texture changes happen due to moisture and temperature. The 'white film' is often just sugar or even a bit of oil that's separated. I'd say you're good to go. Also, you could try storing them in the fridge to maintain consistency.
Thanks everyone! I checked and they don't smell weird, expiration is still months away. I'll try the damp paper towel trick, GummyGuru. But I'm kinda cautious, so maybe I'll just eat the softer ones and leave the harder ones for later. Appreciate the advice!
