Are Vitamin C Gummies Just Candy in Disguise?

I'm seriously starting to question these vitamin C gummies. I bought a bottle for my kid because he refuses to take pills, but after reading the label, each gummy has like 2g of sugar! That's basically candy with a tiny bit of vitamin C. What happened to just taking a tablet or eating an orange? This 'candy-fication' of supplements is getting out of hand.

To be fair, the sugar is often needed to mask the bitter taste of vitamin C (ascorbic acid). And 2g of sugar is actually less than a lot of 'healthy' snacks. But you're right, it's easy to overeat them because they taste so good. The bigger issue is people might think they can eat a handful and get 'extra' benefits - that's not how it works. Moderation is key, I guess.

Honestly, I take gummies for convenience. I'm at the gym all the time and I just need a quick boost without carrying a water bottle and a pill case. But I get the concern. I check the label for sugar alcohols and stuff. Some brands use stevia or monk fruit, so it's not all bad. Maybe look for those? But I agree, kids might see them as candy - gotta keep em out of reach lol.

I get the convenience angle, but it's the principle. Supplements should be about health, not tasting like dessert. I switched to chewable tablets - no sugar, just a chalky taste. My kid hates it, but at least I know what I'm giving him. Maybe we need to teach kids that vitamins aren't candy rather than make them taste like it.

I see both sides. But there's a reason gummies are popular - they improve compliance, especially for kids and elderly. If you're concerned, you can always take a vitamin C powder mixed in water. But honestly, the sugar content is pretty minor compared to a soda. I'll keep my gummies, thanks.
